Do It Like Dorcas

Goal:

To get teenagers thinking about what they are doing right now that will outlive them

Pro Tip:

During this session help your youth think about how what they are doing right now is setting the stage for how they will be remembered later. Tonight is meant to inspire, challenge and motivate them to think about their legacy. Allow them to dream big and show them the benefits of starting small.

Big Idea:

We live in a culture that’s obsessed with being seen, but how often do we pause to think about how we’ll actually be remembered? You don’t have to be on trend to leave a lasting legacy. Influence begins with what’s right in front of you, so start working with what you’ve got today to build your legacy for tomorrow.

Key Statements:

Influence isn’t always instant.
I would rather be known for who I empower than what I do. You don’t need a lot to make a difference

Talk it Out:

  1. Who are some of your favourite influencers?
  2. Think about someone who has made a huge impact on your life. What about them changed your life for the better? (Leader Tip: Use this questions to highlight the reality that nobody ever changed somebody's life simply by being pretty, popular or athletic. The people who leave the biggest impact are the people who serve others, care deeply and are kind, loyal and generous.)
  3. Read Acts 9:36 - 42. The bible said Dorcas was always doing good. What would those around you say you are always doing?
  4. What do you want to be remembered for?
  5. Who could you empower right now with your kindness, friendship, loyalty or generosity?

Prayer:

Pray over young people, Pray for firends to find Jesus
