DBS Checks

Ground Level is a registered Umbrella Body with the Disclosure and Barring Service. This means that we process DBS checks on behalf of organisations, Primarily for Churches in our Network.  A DBS Check (formerly a CRB check) is a means of supplying an organisation with information to make safer recruitment decisions.

There are four different types of checks that you could apply for.

  • Basic (Anyone - This check is helpful if the role you want to check is not eligible for an enhanced disclosure)
  • Standard (Specific roles such as Court Personnel, Financial Bankers)
  • Enhanced/ Enhanced with a Barred list check (Specific roles around supervision for Children and Young people/ Vulnerable adults)

A basic check will reveal any unspent convictions and/or cautions.

An enhanced disclosure with no barred list check will still reveal spent and unspent convictions, along with any other relevant information but will not tell you if an applicant has been barred from that workforce.

An enhanced disclosure with barred list check will reveal the same information along with if the applicant has been barred from working with children or vulnerable adults

Eligibility

We are required by the DBS to justify the eligibility for all the check's we submit. Please complete the eligibility tool found here: https://www.gov.uk/find-out-dbs-check to confirm the level of check required for the role you are applying for.

Please check through the following documents to check whether your applicant is eligible for an Enhance DBS and for the correct Workforce.

Child Workforce

Adult Workforce

If after using these tools you find that your applicant is not eligble under the DBS regulations for an Enhanced DBS, you can apply for a Basic DBS through the Govenment website.

Team Leader Cohorts

Here at Ground Level we want to see all of those involved in any leadership capacity supported, resourced and cared for. At Awaken 2023 we began gathering Team Leaders from various ministry areas, since then we've been developing 'Team Leader Cohorts' - groupings of team leaders from across the Family of Churches who wish to connect with each other for mutual encouragement, support and resourcing.

These groupings will include

  • A Relational Connection with others from the same ministry area, including prayer, sharing of ideas, wisdom and collaboration - facilitated by a dedicated communication group.
  • Opportunities for sharing resources and best practice
  • Gatherings for inspiration, equipping and connection - hosted for some cohorts through dedicated spaces at the Ground Level Leaders Conference & Awaken.

The Current groupings include

Worship Leaders

This cohort is for Worship leaders to connect, introduce new songs and share resources.

Childrens Leaders

This cohort is a space for Childrens Team leaders to share resources, session ideas, training days and stories.

Alpha Team Leaders

This cohort is for those that run Alpha courses in their Church. This is the place to connect, share best practices and pray for other courses taking place across the network.

Community Transformation

This cohort is for those that work in their local communities to share ideas, tips and stories from community projects across the network.

Youth Leaders

This cohort is a space for Youth Team leaders to share resources, training opportunities and stories with one another.

Tech Team Leaders

This is a space for those on their Church tech teams to share about new ideas or equipment as well as advice on the different aspects involved with Church tech.

Administration

This is a space for Church admins to connect, share resources and new information to help with the behind scenes areas of Church.

Wellbeing

Ground Level recognise that Leadership well-being is vitally important so we've teamed up with some trusted counsellors and therapists who are able to support you in this area. This team are able to offer free assessments to those in the Network, advice and direction for those dealing with mental health challenges in their congregations and training for Leaders and Teams.

Services available

  • For Leaders

Leaders can find themselves isolated with limited places to process challenges in their own lives or within the Church.

Counselling is a carefully arranged opportunity for people to talk confidentially through issues that are affecting their lives, with someone specifically trained to help. People seek counselling to support them and resolve emotional, psychological and relationship issues such as bereavement, anxiety, depression, marital problems and more.

Through our wellbeing team, Ross & Lois can provide a free assessment of personal counselling support for network members, both single & couples. Depending on your circumstances this may include signposting to other trusted counsellors and therapists

  • For Teams

Training on wellbeing and mental health awareness is important in upskilling your teams to both care for themselves but also others, be that people they pastor, lead alongside or manage.

Jo is able to provide a range of courses designed to equip you and your team to understand more about the intersection of sound theology and research based therapy. Aiming that all Christians feel confident that mental health, well-being and wholeness are all God’s original design and as spirit filled believers we have a powerful perspective to contribute to the mental health conversation.

Training can be done in person or via a Zoom webinar and can be made accessible for small groups of leaders to larger groups of staff and volunteers.

Read more about Jo's courses here

  • For Pastoral Situations

Sometimes situations arise in Church life where you need some help and direction from a professional, especially when dealing with mental health issues within congregations.

Regions

Our Regions are the heartbeat of connection and care across the Network. Each Region is led by a dedicated team, focused on supporting pastors personally and strengthening the unity we have together. Through regular gatherings and intentional relationships, we make sure every church stays linked to the Network and all we share together.

Regional Leaders and gatherings invest directly in churches to help them grow, thrive, and stay healthy. Their role is all about building momentum: raising great leaders, equipping God’s people, and fostering environments where churches and leaders flourish.

Everything we do in Regions is fueled by our shared vision—to be a movement of churches advancing God’s kingdom everywhere—and driven by our mission: creating healthy churches, developing great leaders, and equipping God’s people.

  • North

    Led by Paul Bedford

This region oversee's churches from across the north of England. Occasionally the church leaders get together to share experiences and their wisdom and perhaps for a carvery. Paul also loves hitting the road visiting churches and church leaders to provide one to one support, care and wisdom.

  • Midlands

led by Matt and Claire Bell

This region oversees churches from across the Midlands.  Leaders from the churches meet together several times during the year – mainly to listen, pray, encourage and prophecy over one another often accompanied by cake!  From time to time we have wider meetings with input from a guest speaker as well as learning together what else is happening within Ground Level.

  • Greater Lincolnshire

Led by Stuart & Irene Bell, Pete Atkins, David Jones, Nigel Collins, Keith Maltby & Mark Watson

The Greater Lincolnshire region covers most of Lincolnshire and operates in four smaller sub regions for purposes of local support and relationship. We have termly days of prayer and fasting for the whole County with a hybrid in-person (in 4 centres connected by zoom) evening gathering. Many of us will also meet up at the monthly Leaders gatherings in Lincoln. The region is led by a team representing the four sub regions.

  • East Anglia

Led by Tim Anderson, Darryl Mallet & Chris Jackson

The East Anglia region oversees churches across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambrideshire with a number looking at networking from there and beyond. Church leaders get together both in person and online providing friendship, support, best practice and prayer.

  • South West

Led by the Ground Level Team

This region oversee's churches that are in the far south of the country, meeting annually for a leaders long lunch in Taunton. These churches also connect on an individual level with leaders from across the network.

  • Overseas

Led by the Ground Level Team

This region is for our friends across the pond in Decatur USA and our two churches in Spain who are all part of the Ground Level family.
