Support when parenting a child with additional needs

Care for the Family is a UK charity committed to strengthening family life. The impact when things go wrong can be devastating, but we believe every family should have somewhere to turn to in the tough times and put down strong roots in the good times to see through the storms when they come.

We provide support, online and in person, for parents, couples and those who are bereaved, through events, courses, podcasts, volunteer befrienders, books and other evidence-based, accessible resources. We also train those who work with families whether in a church community or professional capacity.

We want to offered specialist support to those who are facing challenges in family life.

Support when parenting a child with additional needs

Becoming a parent is a life-changing event with new routines to get used to and a whole new set of priorities. But when your child has additional needs, there are even greater adjustments to be made. Parents may feel isolated and misunderstood, and it can be hard to find other mums and dads in a similar situation.

On our website there are articles to encourage and support you. You can also find out about our telephone befriending support service for parents who have a child with additional needs.

If you would like to be put in touch with a befriender, someone who has first-hand experience of parenting a child with additional needs, please telephone Care for the Family on 029 2081 0800 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
